WI can pick themselves up: Says Ian Bishop:

“I think it will take 4-5 years in the medium-term, just a guess, for what we see now, to come to fruition.
“I'm not saying that in four years the team will be number one in the world; I'm just saying you will start seeing good players come through.
“There must be an understanding of what your roles are, strengths are, how to adapt to international cricket and create a culture and climate of success. And those things don't happen overnight.”
Success does not consist in never making blunders, but in never making the same one the second time.

The standard of West Indies cricket has fallen so steeply that  it would take a lot to sustained effort to rebuild the national team, former fast bowler Ian Bishop feels. The twice former World Cup champions have not beaten a fellow Test side in an ODI since the middle of last year.
Success does not consist in never making blunders, but in never making the same one the second time.

now is not the time to berate the windies team , let's wait until the tournment is over.  We can then sing their praises or perform a post mortem.

The west indies are not a weak team , their batting line is second to none  . They usually loose because of intangibles like the  lack of   dedication and application .

You cannot say that Bishoo bowls long hops , though I agree that he is not the ideal candidate for this situation. My instincts tells me that he will not be selected for a single match if anything is on the line.

I agree with Kwami here. West Indies is NOT a weak team. I don't agree that their batting line up is second to none, but they are definitely not weak.

A lot of people seem to forget how WI beat Sri Lanka at home in 2008. This is much the same squad, yet since then what has happened has been:

1. an unnecessary strike  (quick question, does anyone even remember what said strike achieved? I don't recall it achieving anything other allowing Bangladesh to beat WI at home in tests and ODIs and helping to ensure that soon Bangladesh would (and did) overtake WI in the ODI rankings). This probably gave other teams far more confidence in being able to beat WI than they had before.

2. mixed signals coming from some key players when it comes to their dedication and application (Gayle, Big Bravo, etc)

3. injuries - Jerome Taylor and Fidel Edwards

4. bans - Marlon Samuels.

But a team containing Barath, Gayle, the Bravo brothers, Sarwan, Shiv, Roach and Benn is not weak. Even Devon Smith seems to have found himself.

As Kwami said, a lot has to do with intangibles. Take England for instance. They let the Dutch score 292 (since then the Dutch haven't passed 120), let India score 338 and let Ireland score 329 (and the Irish could have scored 334 if they had batted out 50 overs).  So in 3 matches England have given away an average of 321 runs per match. But England is NOT a weak team. They did very well against Australia and have generally been good in ODIs recently. However if anyone looks at the first ball of Anderson's last over in which Ireland beat England you can literally see the intangibles at work. Anderson bowled an "okayish" delivery which was then struck along the ground towards the boundary....where a fielder SHOULD have intercepted it. Watch it though and you can see where the fielder simply jogs (not runs) towards the ball and doesn't even look interested in stopping it. He could have dived and stopped it from hitting the ropes and hence saved the boundary and give England a chance to maybe tie or even narrowly win it, but he didn't because he showed no application nor any dedication. If he had saved the boundary maybe Ireland would have still run the 3 runs required, but at least they would have made Ireland work for it. On the other hand the Irish might only have run 1 or 2 and in attempting to take another run the English might have been able to get a run out. Even if they didn't it would have still left Anderson with the possibility of salvaging the innings so that England could at least tie  and get a point (after all there had been overs where the Irish only got 2 runs from it).

Most deserved Captains are able to accomplish the above :

South Africa , England , India et al :

Captain Strauss even lifted his personal best of 156 ...

Captain Dhoni is able to make a 38 year year ole play like an U_19 youth!

Captain Smith nickname is Captain Marvellous

Wot leadership by example does Sammy bring to his 10 Men ?

We are NOT advancing out of our Group B...

unless this changes !!

I am really surprised that Onry is giving full support :

After what i think was a  WICB interference with the IPL clubs:

to NOT bid for him ....

BUT it was decent  of Sammy in Bangla' s post game :

TO confirm that Gayle is indeed their Inspirational Leader !!

Kudos to Onry for being a big man !!
