Success does not consist in never making blunders, but in never making the same one the second time.

Okay, this isn't good cricket news from Guyana, but I thought it might qualify as good cricket news:

SDC cricket bowls off this weekend

Saturday, September 13, 2008

Several hundred cricket matches will be played today and tomorrow across the island as the Social Development Commission (SDC) cricket league eliminations begin.

Set to be played at four locations in each parish, this exercise is to reduce the number of community teams that wish to participate in the competition which will be played later in the year.

Following up on the successful staging of the National Community Cricket Competition in 2006, which used the Twenty/20 format and which took a break in 2007, the competition will now be held in 2008. Since only 16 teams per parish will be allowed, there will be cricket rallies in every parish in order to reduce the overflow of interested teams to the required number.

There were over 500 interested teams in 2006 when there had to be a play-off among several of them in order to end up with the manageable 16 teams per parish. And with 16 teams per parish, the grand total is 224 islandwide.

Today's and tomorrow's matches will begin at 10:00 am in all 14 parishes at four locations per parish. Each match in the rallies will be five-overs per side.

Littitz/Comma Pen won the competition in 2006 when thousands of spectators from all across Jamaica turned up at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium to watch the finals between Broughton out of Westmoreland and Littitz/Comma Pen from St Elizabeth.

At the time, the competition was used to sensitise communities about the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

The National Community Cricket Competition was designed and introduced by the SDC to encourage youth participation in cricket at the community level. Additionally, it was introduced in order to foster interaction among community members, as this has proven to be successful in the past.

Clico Under-17 cricket ...
Demerara fighting back against Berbice
THE Clico Under-17 two-day tournament for the Clico Trophy started yesterday at the Wales Community Centre ground with Berbice playing Demerara.

Berbice, winning the toss, sent in Demerara to bat and the homesters posted 176 all out in 63.4 overs.

Andre Stoll continued his great run of form with an even 50. Quincy Ovid made a valuable 33. Dellon Fernandes, who was originally chosen as a stand-by player contributed 27, while captain Dexter Solomon made 20.

Bowling for Berbice, Jamal La Fleur took 4-29 from 24.4 overs and Yogeshwar Deonarine 2-25.

Berbice, in trying to keep their title hopes alive, were in an extremely precarious position when the skies opened and rained out the rest of the first day.

They were reeling on 26 with four of their batsmen back in the pavilion. Pacer Seon Daniels was the pick of the Demerara bowlers, claiming all four wickets.
Play continues today at 09:30 h.

Excellent news! Congrats to Dowlin.

Since there are going to be matches with T&T and Middlesex before the match against England, I expect that everybody in the squad will probably feature in at least one match before the final Stanford XI is chosen for the Nov 1 match against England.

Hope Bravo's surgery turns out okay and that he comes back better than before.
