west indies bowl out bangladesh for 58 on this wicket then they win toss and bat. does that make sense?

West Indies coach suggests time for change

By John Mehaffey    MUMBAI, March 24 (Reuters) - Coach Ottis Gibson bluntlyexposed a decade of under-achievement in West Indies' cricketwith his suggestion that it is now time for the winds of changeto blow through the Caribbean.     West Indies, who have not beaten a test nation apart fromBangladesh since June 2009, never once looked like ending thatsorry record in their World Cup quarter-final against Pakistanon Wednesday.     Apart from winning the toss, West Indies' captain DarrenSammy and his team did nothing right during the course of adismal 10-wicket defeat.     West Indies problem is not a lack of talent. It is, instead,a shortage of the drive and passion which propelled Caribbeancricket to two World Cup titles in the 1970s and to the top ofthe test arena in the 1980s.     "There is an abundance of talent but, sadly, also a paucityof thought and mental strength," former captain Viv Richardswrote in the Times of India on Thursday.     "I don't want to criticise anybody but there are manytalented batsmen in the side and they don't seem to be thinkingabout their game plan."     Gibson, a former West Indies international who also had aspell as the England bowling coach, did not pull his punches.     "Our senior players have not performed and I am notespecially happy with them," he said.

Windies can start making the right steps in the next series they have coming up, but if its a losing cause... maybe that will suggest a COACHING CHANGE

Change starts from the top! However, WI can really afford to rotate coaches and managers. Consistency has to be established. The players require proper preparation, training, coaching to get ready for their next Test match. WI has a problem batting against the spin. That's a batting flaw that needs to be sorted out. Retain specialist to get it sorted out.

Windies first foreign coach was Australian Bennett King circa 2004 I think ........ then there was John Dyson, another Australian around 2007 .......... neither lasted ..... and there was a lot of anti-foreign sentiment

Can't remember who filled in in-between ...... David Moore?  Not sure but I'm sure someone on here can fill you in ......

WI should really think abt gettin specialty coaches, if they want to keep gibson, they need to get a batting coach. How di rass a bowler can teach batting? How can he rectify batting slumps? A fielding coach would not be bad at all. Jonty Rhodes wouldn't be a bad choice. I just think the WICB is sitting they fat ass and eating well off the money that could be used to getting the Windies product back on track. MAYBE we should start a petition for change?

That is not an easy something for a coach to do.  Remember they are dealing with individuals from various countries, as Roger Harper found out, there was much insularity among the players... plus area boards etc.

The West Indies Cricket Board has committed a blunder by not letting Chris Gayle play in the series against India as the explosive batsman stands to lose nothing from a move which will only weaken the host team, feels former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram…“Only performances should not matter but discipline is also very important. But with all the lucrative Twenty20 tournaments around the world like IPL, Gayle doesn”t stand to lose much if he never plays for the Windies again,” Akram told ”Mobile ESPN” from London.
“We all saw what a dynamic player he is while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore during IPL 4. He can change the course of a game in a few overs. Thus I feel, West Indies cricket stands to lose by not picking Gayle, instead of it being vice-versa,” he added…

Windies drop Nash
West Indies have dropped their vice-captain Brendan Nash and have recalled Kirk Edwards for the second Digicel Test at Kensington Oval starting on Tuesday. Nash has been having a torrid time with the bat and his last six Test innings with returns of 5, 3, 6, 30, 1 and 9 tell the story. Edwards read more
