The rider a Yamaha superbike died early this morning in a gruesome accident at the Sheet Anchor, East Canje, Berbice while drag racing with another.
Dead is Jarvis de Freitas of Theatre Alley, who is said to be a seaman.
According to information de Freitas was drinking at a Beer garden at Cumberland, East Canje when they decided to indulge in a drag race with another biker. The men took off at a terrific speed and de Freitas was unable to properly negotiate the treacherous Canje turn. His bike literally flew between two lamp posts, jumped a drain, crashed through a fence, ripped apart a wooden shed before coming to rest at the back of a Chinese Restaurant, with the rider nearby.
The man’s mangled body was picked up and rushed to the New Amsterdam hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
There were blood and body parts all over the scene where several persons had gathered following the crash.

Sometimes one can't help those who are helpless...this guy couldn't handle the speed so he paid dearly. Drinking and riding should not be condoned. RIP...the family will now have to pick up the pieces, literally.

Poor in-land waste disposal and collection, mainly in Georgetown[/size], continues to spill over on to Guyana[/size]’s Atlantic seashore, partly due to no one policing the anti-litter laws- something authorities hope to soon correct by deploying litter wardens.
[/size]Enforcement of the litter laws was made known by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Joslyn Mc Kenzie told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com) during a clean-up exercise on the Georgetown[/size] seawall as part of Guyana[/size]’s participation in International Coastal Clean Up.
[/size]The wardens would be deployed in several coastal communities and Georgetown[/size] to work closely with the regions, neighbourhood and town councils. “Persons could actually be fined for dumping garbage at various places and is all part of the wider plan with the Georgetown Solid Waste Management Project,” Mc Kenzie.
[/size]A consultation would be held to discuss the idea of litter wardens. Under the Environmental Protection Act, two types of litter offences could fetch fines of between GUY$10,000 and GUY$50,000 and GUY$30,000 and GUY$80,000.
[/size]During the cleanup that stretched from behind Pegasus Hotel to Camp Street[/size], representatives from the Lions, Peoples Progressive Party (PPP), University of Guyana[/size] and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) collected and documented the types of solid waste.
[/size]EPA’s Director of Education and Information, Sharifah Razack said Guyana is not this year required to send the data to Ocean Conservancy but her organisation intends to use it to guide policy makers in crafting strategies.
[/size]Asked what steps have been taken by the EPA to enforce litter laws, Razack said the only available option was public education and awareness because of a lack of manpower to enforce litter laws. “You would recognize that the EPA does not have the human capacity to do the kind of policing that would be required out here so unfortunately we haven’t been able to catch people littering,” she told DemWaves.
[/size]She also suggested that more receptacles be placed around the seawall area and encourage vendors to practice good waste disposal.
[/size]Among the items collected Saturday during the coastal cleanup were glass and plastic bottles, plastic wrappers, old pieces of wood and rubber.

A 23-year-old man has been charged with rape and will soon be brought before the courts to answer to that charge.
Anderson Brumell, of Dartmouth, Essequibo Coast, was held for three days and subsequently released on $200,000 station bail.
Reports have indicated that the incident occurred at the Dartmouth bus shed Friday night.
Reports are that the minor whom Brumell reportedly engaged in sexual intercourse reside in the same village and was said to be imbibing alcohol in the company of the adult moments before the incident occurred.
The father of one, the report added, took the minor to his sister-in-law at Dartmouth and later took the teen to the Dartmouth mouth bus shed where he reportedly engaged in sex with the minor.
A report was subsequently relayed to the police and Brumell was apprehended.
